Land Selection: Choose well-drained loamy to light loamy soil for best results. Avoid saline and waterlogged areas, as they are not suitable for cultivation.

Sowing Time:

  • Summer Season: March
  • Kharif (Monsoon) Season:

In states like Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, sowing should be done between the last week of June and the first week of July, depending on the onset of the monsoon.

In other regions, sowing should take place between mid-March and early April.

Seed Rate:

  • Summer Season: 10–12 kg per acre
  • Kharif Season: 6–8 kg per acre

Spacing Between Rows:

  • Summer Crop: 20–25 cm
  • Kharif Crop: 30–45 cm

Fertiliser Application:

  • Urea: 18 kg per acre at sowing time
  • Single Super Phosphate (SSP): 100 kg per acre or
  • Diammonium Phosphate (DAP): 35 kg per acre
  • Granular Sulphur: 8 kg per acre

Weed Control:

Apply 700 ml of Pendimethalin 30 EC (Stomp) per acre immediately after sowing.

Perform one weeding/hoeing 20–25 days after sowing.

Irrigation:

  • Summer Crop: First irrigation should be done 20–25 days after sowing. Subsequent 2–3 irrigations should be applied at 15–20 day intervals.
  • Kharif Crop: Irrigation depends on rainfall availability.

Pest Control:

For hairy caterpillar, leaf eater, green aphids, and whitefly: Spray 1 ml Monocrotophos or 2 ml Quinalphos (Ekalux) per liter of water.

Disease Control:

Yellow Mosaic Virus: Spray 1 ml Rogor (Tafgor) per liter of water 20–25 days after sowing.

Leaf Spot Disease and Bacterial Leaf Blight: Spray 600–800 g Mancozeb (Indofil M-45) per acre mixed in 200 liters of water.

Harvesting:

Harvest the crop when 75% of the pods have matured to avoid losses due to shattering.
