Package of Practice of Cultivation of Paddy Crops

Paddy is one of the most important field crops grown in India. The following package of practices should be followed to attain higher yields from the paddy crop

Package of Practice of Cultivation of Paddy Crops

Land Selection:

The ideal land for rice cultivation is loamy and smooth soil with a pH range of 5.5 to 9.5.

Field Preparation:

Perform deep plowing, fill the field with water, and use a rotavator for puddling.

Seed Rate:

Basmati Rice: 6-8 kg per acre

Palmal (PR) Rice: 8-10 kg per acre

Hybrid Rice: 6-7 kg per acre

Nursery Sowing Time:

Short-duration varieties: 15th May to 30th June

Medium-duration & Hybrid varieties: 15th May to 30th May

Basmati Rice: First fortnight of June

Nursery Preparation:

For 1 kg of seed, prepare 25 square meters of nursery.

Apply 1 kg of urea, 1 kg of DAP, and 500 grams of zinc per 150 square meters during puddling.

Transplanting:

Apply 1 kg of urea to the nursery 15 days after sowing, preferably in the evening. Before uprooting the seedlings, ensure the nursery is watered a day before to avoid root breakage. Transplant 20-25 days old seedlings for Basmati rice and 25-30 days old seedlings for other varieties.

Soak the seedlings in a solution of 2 grams of Carbendazim per litre of water for at least half an hour to prevent Bakani disease. Cut off the top 3-4 cm of long seedlings.

Fertilizer Application:

Rice Variety          Urea (kg/acre)     DAP (kg/acre)       Potash (kg/acre)  Zinc (kg/acre)

Dwarf Basmati                    70                          30                          25                          10

Long Basmati                      40                          30                          25                          10

Hybrid Rice                         115                       60                          25                          10

Apply DAP and potash during sowing.

Apply half of the urea and the full amount of zinc sulfate 10-15 days after transplanting.

Apply the remaining half of the urea after 6 weeks.

Weed Control: Apply one of the following herbicides:

3 days after transplanting: Butachlor 50 EC: 12 liters per acre or Pretilachlor 50 EC: 800 ml per acre

15=-20 days after transplanting: Bispyribac (Nominee Gold): 100 ml per acre or  Metsulfuron Methyl 20 WP: 8 grams per acre

Harmful Pests:

Stem Borer:

Apply 8 kg of Cartap Hydrochloride (Padan) 4G or 5 kg of Fipronil (Regent) 03G per acre.

During the booting stage, spray 20 ml of Flubendiamide (Takumi) 39.35% per acre.

Leaf Folder:

Spray 50 grams of Flubendiamide (Takumi) 20% SC or 120 grams of Pymetrozine (Chase) 50% WG per acre in 200 litres of water.

Major Diseases:

Blast (Badara):

Ensure the nursery remains moist and transplant before 15th July.

Neck Blight:

Keep the field moist and avoid dryness during the flowering stage.

Spray 200 ml of Amistar Top (Azoxystrobin 18.2% + Difenoconazole 11.4% SC) per acre in 200 litres of water.

Sheath Blight:

Spray 200 ml of Amistar Top or 450 ml of Validamycin (Sheathmar) 3% ML per acre.
